Right now Akiya is a
special needs girl. She was taken away from her
owners by Animal Control due to extreme neglect. She
had been tied out in a field of cheat grass in Eastern
Washington. The heads of this grass burrow through
fur and underneath skin causing abscesses if left
untreated. Akiya had abscesses all over her
body One foot was so swollen she could not
walk. Animal Control pulled out over 50 seeds from
between 2 toes on that foot
And the long fur on
the backs of Akiya's rear legs and on the back of her tail
had grown so tangled with weeds that they were matted
together, pulling her tail down against her leg so that
appeared crippled and was full of caught, dried filth
To save her, Animal
Control had to shave her down to her skin. You can
see from her face that she will be an exquisite dog in a
few months. But in the meantime, she's in danger of
sunburn, exposure and we are a tad worried that the snows will
come here in the mountains before her fur does! (I
do have a coat made for a fur-challenged malamute that
will become Akiya's new fashion do's as the weather
changes.)
Akiya is now playing,
on her very first day here with her male foster dog
friend, Woolly. She seems quite healthy and happy
when it's play, pet or dinner time. But she'd like a forever home where she can come inside if it is too cold. Can you help? |
